Utah State University, or USU for short, is a public land-grant and research university with the main campus located in Logan, which is the county seat of Cache County, situated in the US state of Utah, with a population estimated at a number of more than 48 000 inhabitants, during the 2008 census. It is the principal city of the Logan, UT-ID Metropolitan Statistical Area, which contains Cache County and Franklin County, Idaho, the Logan Metropolitan Area having more than 125 000 people, living within its limits.
USU was founded in 1888, first starting as the Agricultural College of Utah under the Morrill Act, adopting its current name and becoming a university in 1957. It has an enrollment of approximately 25 000 students, and it offers a total of 176 bachelor's degrees, 97 master's degrees, and 38 doctoral degrees, in various fields of study, through 8 colleges, which include: the Caine College of the Arts, College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, College of Natural Resources and Jon M. Athletics
USU's athletic teams are known as the Utah State Aggies, who compete in the NCAA Division I Western Athletic Conference (WAC), in various sports, including in basketball, football, volleyball, softball, tennis, gymnastics and track and field. The basketball team has recently become a nationally respected program, the team having made several conference championships and trips to the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship, USU's basketball program being one of the most successful programs in the country since 2000, the team winning at least 23 games in each season, many conference championships, and appearing in the NCAA tournament numerous times.
